In 2011 Riga public transport passengers mostly used 20-trip tickets

According to the information of Rīgas satiksme, in 2011 passengers in Riga public transport mostly used tickets for 20 trips. These tickets were registered 17 157 969 times, which accounts for 12% of the total number of passengers last year.

E-ticket with tram drawn by Kristofers Krūmiņš is ready

On Tuesday, December 6, Kristofers Krūmiņš received the first e-ticket decorated by his drawing of a tram. 4 million e-tickets with Kristofers’ tram are being gradually made available in trade outlets starting from yesterday, December 6. The users of the new-style e-tickets will be able to download tickets for a certain number of trips, as well as time and group tickets. These downloaded tickets will be valid for 12 months from the first registration.

Outlets of "Rīgas satiksme" and e-ticket vending machines resume payments with bank cards

Starting from today, November 24, all Rīgas satiksme ticket outlets, customer service centres and e-ticket vending machines resume payments with bank cards (except those issued by Latvijas Krājbanka), as Rīgas satiksme has reached an agreement with SEB bank on accepting bank cards.

As POS terminals are maintained by Latvijas Krājbanka, whose operations are now suspended, bank cards are not accepted when paying for e-tickets bought from ticket vending machines, in Rīgas satiksme customer service centres and public transport terminals. Only cash is accepted in all the above places.

"Rīgas satiksme" offers new ticket for 50 trips

Starting from Monday, November 21, a new ticket for 50 trips is available in all outlets selling e-tickets. The new ticket for 22 lats can be loaded into blue e-tickets (both personalised and non-personalised). Like other types of tickets, it is valid for 12 months from the purchase day.

The company hopes that it will allow passengers to visit customer service centres at convenient time and to get discounts they are entitled to.

Drawing by Kristofers to be printed on e-tickets

Late this year yellow e-tickets will be decorated by the drawing of Kristofers Krūmiņš (see below) – such was the verdict of Rīgas satiksme website visitors who participated in the voting to select the best drawing. The tram drawn by Kristofers has collected an overwhelming majority, 713 votes. A total of 2949 Rīgas satiksme website visitors participated in the vote from June 2 till July 4.

E-ticket vending machines to accept bank payment cards only

To protect customers from problems related to receiving cash exchange, only bank cards will be accepted in ticket vending machines starting from Tuesday, December 14. The decision was taken because in the first weeks of December alone there were 53 cases in which ticket vending machines were damaged as a result of illegal acts and customers did not receive cash exchange.

E-ticket with low-floor tram drawn by Vineta Siliņa is ready

On Thursday, November 25, Vineta Siliņa received the first e-ticket decorated with the new low-floor tram she had drawn. 4 million of tickets were manufactured. As of today, November 25, they will be available in some trade outlets. Tickets for a certain number of trips, limited-time and group tickets will can be loaded into the new ticket.

First ticket vending machines put in Riga public transport stops

At the end of summer, three new ticket vending machines were put into operation at public transport stops in Riga. They are now available in Rūsiņa Street (the bus terminal in Abrenes Street), at Merķeļa Street 3 and in Brīvības Boulevard near the orthodox cathedral. Now there is a total of 24 ticket vending machines operating in Riga, and another ten are due to be put in public transport stops until the end of this year.

Tram drawn by Vineta to be printed on e-tickets this autumn

The new low-floor tram drawn by Vineta will be printed on yellow e-tickets this autumn. It has won with a comfortable majority of 927 votes. A total of 3351 visitors of the Rīgas satiksme website participated in the vote that lasted one month – from June 4 till July 5.

Seeking to make the range of its tickets more attractive, as well as taking into account the first conclusions about the use of tickets, wishes and needs of passengers using the electronic payment system, Rīgas satiksme is going to change the range of its tickets. Today these changes were approved by the Commission for the Licensing of Commercial Passenger Transportation Services of Riga City Council. The changes will take effect after making necessary amendments to the relevant binding regulations.

"Latvia Post" offices in Riga resume trade in public transport tickets

Since January 4, 2010, customers can buy and reload e-tickets for public transport in 27 Latvia Post offices in Riga. It is scheduled that by the beginning of March trade in e-tickets will be ensured in all 45 Latvia Post offices in Riga.

Starting from January, new e-tickets with a much more attractive design, presenting various photo views of Riga, will be put into circulation. The first batch of the new e-tickets, totalling 650,000, will present the traditional panorama view of Riga. From now on, each 500,000 smart tickets will offer a new photo, making an attractive series of Riga views.

On official holidays public transport in Riga will run according to holiday timetables. Parking-lots along streets, except in Old Riga, will be free of charge. On December 31 and January 1 no fare will be charged in public transport.

500,000 trips are registered daily
The electronic payment system in Riga public transport is fully operational as of May 1 – the data of the first week testify that in general it runs successfully. In the first days of May, 500,000 users of electronic payments system were registered every day on the average, a 100 % increase on the previous month. Almost all public transport passengers use the new system. Now the interest of passengers that we witnessed in the first days has decreased, and individual problems, for example, the need to receive a new smart card due to technical problems, have been also gradually solved, and individual questions about the use of e-ticket have been also answered.

Paper one-month tickets will be valid in March and April

Starting from March 1, the electronic payment system will be gradually introduced in Riga public transport. During the transition period, in March and April, the old-type paper one-month tickets will be valid, and one-time tickets for tram and trolleybus will be also on sale until March 31.

With the implementation of the new electronic payments system, new tickets will be introduced in Riga public transport. They will be available in retail trade, as well as in ticket machines. The new tickets will valid for a certain number of trips or a certain period of time. Their prices will be based on the current public transport tariff – LVL 0.40. The new tickets will supplement the already existing range of products.
