E-ticket is a combined ticket enabling its holders to use the most up-to-date and convenient type of payments for public transport services. E-tickets will be fully operable in Riga public transport from May 1, 2009, and will be valid in all means of public transport operated by Rīgas satiksme. During the transition period in March and April passengers will be able to use both systems – the existing one and the new electronic payment system.
The implementation of the new system will not change the existing tariffs, and the benefits granted to residents by Riga city council will be preserved. Only the way of paying for public transport services will change.
E-ticket will help passengers to save the time spent on buying paper tickets; it will eliminate the problem of paper tickets supply in retail trade, and will make payments in public transport cashless.
